Over the past few decades, sea turtle populations in the Gulf of Mexico have faced unprecedented challenges. Plastic pollution, bycatch in fishing nets, and habitat destruction have pushed several species to the brink of extinction, including the Loggerhead, Hawksbill, and Green Turtle. According to NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration), more than 1,000 sea turtles are killed each year due to plastic pollution, and more than 250,000 are threatened by bycatch in fishing nets.
